John was born in Bangkok (Thailand) and lived in Saudi Arabia for more than ten years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Commerce (International Business) from the University of Auckland in 2004 and was admitted to the bar in October 2004. He is bilingual, fluent in both English and Korean. John possesses a great passion for the game of soccer and his hobby, therefore, involves anything involving soccer while his interests in basketball and golf illustrate his openness towards sports in general due to the excitement, competitiveness and team-work such games invoke. John is also involved in the community as a captain of a local Korean soccer team in Auckland. Part of his responsibilities included organising a successful winter soccer league in 2006 for his soccer team.
John has always had business flair as well as a legal mindset demonstrated by his young leadership role as a director of a company which imported electronic goods from overseas since 2003. John believes that this direct business experience makes him better prepared to assist clients to reach their commercial application rather than getting bogged down in legalistic matters. John is a highly motivated person with a “can do” attitude. John has the ability to couple traditional approaches to tackling problems and apply innovative and novel methods in order to reach a successful result for his clients. John is hard working and has efficient time management skills. His main goal is to become an even better lawyer by working closely with his clients to ultimately fulfil their needs in order to obtain the optimum resolution and maximum satisfaction for all involved.
Nearly all clients represented by John will agree that JJ is a very safe and competent pair of professional hands – he is, in fact, one of the hardest working lawyers in New Zealand and has developed a great depth of knowledge over a wide range of legal issues. He is used to Marcus throwing complex work at him and demanding it gets turned around at the speed of sound and has acted on numerous commercial dealings representing significant amounts of money.
Some of John’s recent work includes spearheading due diligence on an NZ $40 M commercial property comprising some 50 tenancies, representing a diplomatic kiwi company buying of NZ’s largest development sites, assorted commercial contracts.
