Brett Carpenter Joins Queen City Law

Queen City Law is pleased to announce a new addition to the team. Please welcome one of Aucklands leading exponents of Litigation, Tax and Commercial Law QCL_ProfileBrettCarpenter

Brett Carpenter is a qualified barrister and solicitor who presently operates a law practice based in the Hawke’s Bay where he moved to from Auckland some years ago. Brett is now returning to Auckland and recently joined QCL as a consultant. He brings considerable expertise particularly in the areas of trusts and taxation together with a wide experience in property and commercial law.

In 1998 Brett obtained a Master of Taxation Studies degree at the University of Auckland. Check out Brett’s profile click here.

Brett’s work has involved providing advice on property transactions, the structuring of commercial acquisitions and disposals, trusts and succession planning; GST; negotiations with the IRD, tax residency and cross border issues. He has represented clients’ interests in complex cases before the Taxation Review Authority and the Social Security Appeal Authority.

Brett has also had a lengthy consultancy with The Property Group Ltd, a company specialising in infrastructure projects, public works act acquisitions and disposals and property consultancy services working as a member of their legal team.

Outside of the law Brett has a keen interest in sport, particularly rugby (now from the sideline) golf and sailing. A long interest in wine, helped by a season harvesting grapes in the Loire Valley during a post university sojourn in Europe led to Brett, together with his wife Heather, establishing a vineyard in Hawke’s Bay. The Best Paddock vineyard grows merlot and caber- net franc grapes supplying Vidal, part of the Villa Maria group. A planned move to Waiheke will see Brett and his family continuing their long interest and connection with the food and wine industries.

Brett has spent his time in a number of activities; he is a long-time member of Rotary (originally the Newmarket Club and more recently the Hastings-Karamu Club) and takes an active part in community activities for that club; he has also been involved in a number of activities provided by SWNZ (Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand).

Brett graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Dunedin in 1977 and obtained a Masters of Taxation Studies (Hons) from Auckland in 1998.
